Atlantic City 3 Jan 2000 |
|
Atlantic City is famous for only 1 thing, gambling. Since we live in New Jersey, it would be sinful if we did not even venture to this famous city of sin. I was expecting a mini-Las Vegas. What I got was a small little town with nothing but casinos.
We took one of the “Free” bus ride to Atlantic City. You pay $21 first, but when you get to casino, they will exchange your coupon for about $18-$23 worth of quarters. Not only do you get a free ride, but depending on which casino you go, you might actually get more money than you paid for the bus ticket. Not bad. A lot of the regular customers seem to be pensioners. Some who goes everyday and knows the route of the buses better than the bus drivers. The ride takes about 3 hours to get to Atlantic City. We went for the buffet in Taj Mahal for $9.95. Pretty cheap we thought but it turns out that although there were plenty of food, there were not so many variety. The casinos here cater more for 1-arm-bandit slot machines than tables. Thousands of slot machines from 5˘ to $1 per pull. Lot’s of old people around, especially old ladies. What a way to retire! The tables are not cheap. Blackjacks starts at $10 per bet and the cheapest table I found was the “Big/Small” dice table at $3 per bet. My advise, “Don’t bet and if you do, don’t listen to the old ladies”. I was winning until this harmless looking old lady persuaded me to up the ante on the slot machine from 1 quarter per pull to 3 quarters per pull. Beware, unless you got as much money as one of those old ladies, don’t try their strategy of betting. Oh yeah! If you are Chinese, don’t worry. There are many places that probably speak Chinese and can pay cash for your gold. Yup, it’s senior citizens and oriental people all over the place. Chinese loves to gamble.
