Philadelphia (7 Jan 2000)

Please note that this page has 21 photos in it and will take more than 5 minutes to download so please be patient. There will be no thumbnails on this page. So while you are waiting for the all the pictures to come out, why not take your time to read what I have written below.

Philadelphia is a city of history. It’s the second capital of the United States of America after they moved it from New York. We wanted to visit it to see the important historical places like the Independence Hall where the Declaration of Independence was signed. In fact, we saw a copy of the original but unsigned Declaration of Independence.

Philadelphia is one of the oldest city in America. Some of the houses and buildings are more than 200 years old. Unlike New York, progress here doesn’t seem to affect the historical area of the city. A lot of the houses look very antique and American in nature. Beautiful and well maintained.

We also decided to see the famous Rocky staircase. If you can remember, in the movie Rocky, Rocky would run up this staircase to train for his fight against Apollo Creed. I personally wanted to see it and do the Rocky run. Hey, when you are in Philly, you gotta do this! I was expecting the staircase to be something like “Batu Caves” or at the least half the distance. I was very disappointed that the staircase was only about 50 meters in length and possible only 10 meters in height. No wonder he lost to Apollo in the first movie. The staircase is actually located at the back of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, a very beautiful building. We didn’t know how to get there so we asked a police officer to direct us there. He was having so much trouble instructing us thru the map that he decided to take us there personally. So we followed his police car for the next 5 minutes to the museum. Great public service huh? Unfortunately, we didn’t visit the inside of the museum as we had only 1 hour before it closes and the admission fee was $8. At the back of the museum, there is a great view of Philadelphia and many statues and sculptures.
